You must have a child born in 2005 or later and live in downtown Manhattan, participate & attend events and playgroups in Manhattan.

Bowery Babes is a downtown NYC nonprofit mothers group dedicated to supporting women from pregnancy through the early years of motherhood and beyond. Our mission is to support, educate and enrich parents and create a welcoming, close-knit family community within downtown Manhattan.

Bowery Babes is both an “on” and “offline” community. Our online forum allows mothers to be in contact with other moms on every topic under the sun. Each member joins an Age & Stage so she can be part of an even more intimate group and communicate with other families with children the same age.

In addition to this extremely active online communication, our members network through playgroups, meet ups and other Bowery Babes events such as educational talks, webinars, working-moms lunches, philanthropy and social events.

Body After Baby- Understanding the changes our bodies go through and what we can do about them.

Thu May 4, 2017, 6:30–8:30 pm EDT

We all know that our bodies are not the same after having children. The pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding and stress of being a mom all add up. Some of these we would like to have corrected, but the details are so personal, we may not even feel comfortable discussing with our doctors. To address these issues, we’ve brought together a panel of doctors to talk about these taboo topics. We will bring them out in the open, without judgment, so that you know what treatments are out there, how to talk to your doctor about it and who to even see.

Our panel consists of 3 women physicians: a urologist, a gynecologist and a plastic surgeon. Each expert will address the most common questions within their specialty regarding postpartum changes and give advice on how to address your concerns. You will have the opportunity to meet each of the doctors, ask questions and leave with a better sense of what to do next.

MEET OUR PANEL:

Dr. Elizabeth Sieczka is a plastic surgeon in New York and is affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area, including Beth Israel Medical Center and Lenox Hill Hospital. She has received extensive training in general, head and neck, and plastic/reconstructive surgery. She obtained her medical degree from NYU School of Medicine in 1993 after her undergraduate education at Cornell University. Dr. Sieczka’s surgical training began in New York at Mount Sinai and Beth Israel Medical Center followed by fellowships in Head and Neck Surgery at Roswell Park Cancer Institute and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Washington University in St. Louis.

Her practice includes reconstructive surgery for many indications, including breast cancer, as well as a wide variety of cosmetic procedures. She will be discussing the components of the “mommy makeover” and other procedures dealing with our bodies as they age, as well as dispelling as many plastic surgery myths as possible. She currently lives in Brooklyn with her three boys (her husband and two sons, that is!).

Dr. Elizabeth Kavaler is a urologist practicing in New York. She is a graduate of the State University of New York at Brooklyn Medical School, where she was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha National Honor Society. She completed her general surgery residency at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. She then completed a post-graduate fellowship in Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery and Urodynamics at the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Kavaler is one of only 500 woman urologists in practice in the U.S. and is one of the preeminent experts in female urological disorders.

Traditionally, urology has been a specialty primarily populated by men, with a focus on male problems. She has devoted her practice to informing women that their problems are not only real, but treatable. Women no longer need to be embarrassed or afflicted with bladder problems. Nobody has to suffer. Everyone can be helped, no matter how young or how old. Dr. Kavaler is the author of the book, “A Seat on the Aisle, Please!”, a frank and open discussion on urinary disorders in women.

Dr. Meredith Halpern is an attentive and engaged OB-GYN caring for the community of New York. Dr. Halpern attended Drexel University, where she received her medical degree. She then completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Temple University Hospital. Dr. Halpern is a physician at ROSH Maternal Fetal Medicine, OB/GYN & Ultrasound. She is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and is a fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Women see Dr. Halpern for a variety of reasons including incontinence, ectopic pregnancies, fibroids, ovarian cysts, and pelvic pain. She also performs procedures such as IUD insertions and removals, pelvic ultrasounds, and laparoscopic tubal ligation. Dr. Halpern is sensitive to the uniqueness of each patient's situation and adapts her consultations and treatment options appropriately to accommodate individual needs and concerns. Her top priority as a physician is the care of her patients, and she prides herself on delivering the best treatment available.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

Wine and cheese will be served.

Finding the Om in Mom: A Retreat Day for Mothers

Sat May 20, 2017, 10 am – 6 pm EDT

As moms, we do it all. We give freely of ourselves.
We don’t complain (most of the time), and we
wouldn’t trade it for anything. But our wisdom
also tells us that from time to time we must turn
our attention back to ourselves.

Every mom deserves a day away - to relax,
renew and reconnect.

Our retreat takes place at The StillWell Studio, a
beautiful space overlooking the Hudson River.
Your hosts, Randi Zinn and Allison Gould, have
created an experience that will immerse you in
the joys and benefits of yoga, nature, swimming,
writing, meditation, connecting, and reflecting.

Join us for this day of going inward and getting
back to the self. Together we will Find the Om in
Mom!

$125 per person (includes a bountiful vegetarian
lunch and refreshments throughout the day)
