Conscious Parenting talk and luncheon with Susan Nason

Mon Feb 27, 2017, 12–2 pm EST

Bowery Babes invites you to attend a stimulating and informative talk presented by Susan Nason, based on the approach described in the classic book by Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish; How to Talk so Kids Will Listen and Listen So Kids Will Talk

For more than thirty-five years, the book and method has been enthusiastically praised by parents and professionals around the world for the down-to-earth, respectful approach that makes relationships with children of all ages less stressful and more rewarding.

In this interactive lecture, Susan will engage participants in a discussion about the challenges and solutions around raising children. We will explore and illustrate skills and techniques proven effective to encourage autonomy, engage cooperation and problem-solve. Employing practical, spiritual and therapeutic approaches to the challenges of raising children, participants will leave the talk with concrete skills that can be applied immediately at home.

Learn how to:
Engage your child’s willing cooperation
Deal with your child’s negative feelings - frustration, disappointment, anger
Express your anger without being hurtful
Set firm limits and still maintain goodwill
Use alternatives to punishment that teach and promote self-discipline
Praise in a way that will promote your child’s self-esteem
Learn ways to encourage age-appropriate autonomy

Susan Nason trained with her aunt, Adele Faber and co-author Elaine Mazlish and has been a facilitator of workshops based on their approach for over 35 years. She recently retired from her position as the Assistant to the Director at The First Presbyterian Church Nursery School where she facilitated parenting workshops as the school's Parent Educator. She has facilitated the How To Talk workshop at the Ackerman Institute for the Family, many tri-state area schools as well as privately. She has been a speaker for the Parents' League. An ordained Interfaith Minister, she has a thriving spiritual counseling practice where she specializes in conscious parenting. She is the proud mother of a grown daughter, and is an ecstatic grandmother of two.

Ongoing Parenting Workshops are offered. Please contact Susan Nason for more information: rev.susannason@gmail.com

Girls Leadership, Raising Resilient Girls Talk

Tue Feb 28, 2017, 6:30–8 pm EST

Eager to learn about the pressures that are unique to being a girl in 2017 and how you can help girls navigate these challenges with confidence?

For over ten years Girls Leadership has awakened thousands of girls to a new, bold definition of leadership. Co-founded by bestselling author, Rachel Simmons, Girls Leadership believes that leadership is a way of life, which begins in girlhood. We define leadership as a girl’s ability to know how she feels, say what she needs, and respond courageously to her mistakes. Girls graduate from our programs more emotionally intelligent, resilient, and confident.

Girls Leadership NY Educator Lisa Rozza Haft speaks to parents and teachers about the challenges girls face today, the reasons why we see girls struggling, and what we can do to help them. In the acclaimed 1-hour talk (followed by a 30 minute Q&A), Lisa shares how to help parents help girls practice assertive self-expression, emotional intelligence and healthy relationships, preparing them for a life of personal and social leadership. Her engaging presentation covers the development of girl dynamics beginning in preschool through high school.
