General Meeting - You've Got This: Tools to Triumph Over the Challenges of Raising Multiples from Birth to Early Childhood

Thu Aug 17, 2017, 7:30–10 pm PDT

Where: Rose Garden Branch Library
1580 Naglee Ave. San Jose, CA 95126
Contact: vicepresidents@geminicrickets.org

Consider it a date night or come by yourself! Take some time out on a Thursday evening to socialize with some fellow families of multiples while enjoying a fancy mocktail (a non-alcoholic cocktail) and some snacks, hear facts from an expert on postpartum issues and how to get help locally, and participate in a workshop to hone your skills on mastering the challenges that may come your way as a parent of multiples at any age or stage. Both members and non-members are welcome to attend. If you are a non-member, please email us at vicepresidents@geminicrickets.org to let us know you're planning to attend (just to give us an idea of how many to expect).

See the details below for more about the evening's agenda.

AGENDA FOR THE EVENING

7:30-7:45 p.m. Sign-In, Name Tags, Speed-Dating Social Activity, and Food/Drinks

Mocktail Bar and Appetizers
This month’s meeting features a mocktail bar and light appetizers. Your GC Mixologists (Vice-Presidents), Karla Holmes and Michelle Studley, will happily create you a delicious and refreshing non-alcoholic cocktail to enjoy with a plate of appetizers.

Signature beverages of the evening:

“The Cricket” Peach Mocktail—peach shrub, apple cider, sage leaves, and freshly grated nutmeg
Sleeping Twins’ Sangria- Fruit slices, pomegranate juice, OJ, sparkling water, simple syrup, decaffeinated tea
“The Gemini” Ginger Lime Fizz—Ginger beer, sparkling water, fresh lime juice, limes

“Speed-Dating” for FOMs

For the first 15 minutes, we’ll facilitate a speed-dating type situation, where you’ll be able to get acquainted with other members for a few minutes with a few key questions, and when the timer runs out, you’ll rotate to the next member. Questions will be things like “What is your fondest memory around the time when your multiples were born?” or “What has been your biggest challenge so far in raising your multiples?” “What is the #1 thing you wish someone would have told you about raising multiples?” If people arrive late, they can jump in as they arrive.

7:45-8:00 p.m. Supporting Mamas Presentation

About Supporting Mamas: We are dedicated to helping new and expectant moms and their families overcome postpartum depression and other perinatal mood and anxiety disorders by offering information, resources, support and hope.
-One in seven moms and one in 10 dads will experience a perinatal mood or anxiety disorder. There is help available.
-Postpartum depression is the most under-diagnosed obstetrical complication in America.

8:00-8:05 p.m. Quick intro and announcements by the VPs

8:05-9:55 Interactive Workshop by Lori Longo of Parents Place

Raising Twins: The Challenges of Parenting Twins and Multiples
Discuss the twin bond, how to deal with comparison and competition, and tips for managing daily demands. Gain creative and practical strategies for parenting multiples, including handling sibling rivalry and building positive family relationships.
