This is a book club for women living in NW Houston. Spring Branch, Jersey Village,1960 area, Willowbrook,Bear Creek, Cypress, Katy, Spring and nearby neighborhoods. This is to meet up and discuss books and make new friends. You can live anywhere in Houston but we will meet in NW Houston. If you like to read chick lit, YA, fantasy, sci fi, mystery, fiction, non fiction, bestsellers, etc. Then Join up.
Meetings are once a month. We vote for the books we read. Usually 3 books to choose from, and voting takes place the day after a meeting and usually ends on Wednesday. Our Meetings take place the 3rd Saturday evening of each month unless otherwise noted. Meetings take place at our members homes. Participation is KEY! Please make sure if you join that you can at least attend a meeting. Check out the calendar for upcoming events. There also might be some unofficial book club meetings where books are not involved. Stay tune. If you have any questions please email me.

F.A.Q.

Q. What are the age range of the members?

A. I am 32, but our members are from 25-45. We welcome members of all ages.

Q. What other type of events do you have?

A. Movies, girls night, painting, bowling, author signings, etc...

Q. How do I recommend a book?

A. Email me or Amanda. Please keep in mind that we check to make sure the book has a high rating on goodreads, that it's available at the library, and its a book we can discuss as a group. Not all books that are recommend will be placed on the poll. We also try to stay away from religious and political books.

Q. What books have you all read?

A. Well we started in early 2009 and that's a lot of books. But some our favorite books have been:

Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah
The Help by Kathryn Stockett
The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins
The Lost Wife by Alyson Richman
Ready Player One by Earnest Cline
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
Water for Elephant by Sara Gruen
Wonder by R.J. Palacio
The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton
Calling Me Home by Julie Kibler
Delirium by Lauren Oliver
Official Book Club Selection: A Memoir According to Kathy Griffin
by Kathy Griffin

Even though we never read some of the books as group, a lot of members (NOT ALL) are fans of Harry Potter, Twilight (ok maybe just a handful on that one) , Sookie Stackhouse books, Jane Austen, Jennifer Weiner books, and so much more. We are just a group of ladies who love to read. We all have different backgrounds and different personalities but we share the love of the written word.

Q. Have you ever had meetings with authors?

A. We love meeting authors or having some communication with them. I try at times to look up (stalk) authors to see if they will communicate with us in some fashion. Below is a list of authors we've skype, emailed and met.

1. Phone call: Waking Up in the Land of Glitter by Kathy Cano-Murillo
2. Phone call: Cheap Cabernet: A Friendship by Cathie Beck
3. Skype: The Lost Wife by Alyson Richman
4. Email: How to Eat a Cupcake: by Meg Donohue
5. Meeting: The Truth about Lilly Barnes by Kimberly Russell
6. Email: Flat-Out Love by Jessica Park
7. Meeting: Firelight by Sophie Jordan
8. Phone call: Calling Me Home by Julie Kibler
9. Skype: Necessary Lies by Diane Chamberlain
10: Skype: Me and Emma by Elizabeth Flock

To Authors:

Q. I am an author and I would love for your group to read my book.

A. Great. Please send me ARC of your book ( email me for addy) and if its something we want to read as a group. I will let you know. Look above at the list of books mention and keep in mind the genres we read. Money making type books or self help books, religious books will automatically be denied. Please do not join NW Houston bookclub.
