Support for the Family of Multiples

Sat Mar 4, 2017, 9:30–11:30 am PST

As a parent of multiples, it is so important to have support. While some folks may have family members close by, others do not and it is challenging to call on friends for the intimate support that is needed. Postpartum doulas work with families during the first few months after your babies arrive home. They can support your family with daily tasks and basic learning of newborn care. Some postpartum doulas also help with night care to ensure parents get a good stretch of much needed sleep.

If you are interested in learning more about postpartum doulas, we will have two NAPS doulas visit our Year One group to answer questions and provide you with information and resources on support for the postpartum period. Topics covered will include:

*What is a postpartum doula?
*What is the role of a postpartum doula in supporting a families transition to parenthood?
*Potential challenges of the postpartum period, such as postpartum depression and mood disorders.
*Adjustments to the family after babies arrive home.
*Supporting siblings.
*How do you find a doula who is a good fit for your family?

Year One is a free drop-in group hosted by an SFOM parent. RSVP is not required, but is helpful information to the host for the gathering.
All expectant and new parents of multiples in their first year are invited to attend (and babies are welcome, of course!). Siblings in good health are also welcome. The group is casual and late arrivals are part of being a new parent. Come with your mismatched socks and big questions.
