The Society of Evangelical Arminians
Join us Today!
The Society of Evangelical Arminians (SEA) is an association of evangelical scholars and laymen who adhere to Arminian theology and are united in order to glorify God, edify his people, protect them from error, and foster the proper representation of our magnificent God to the world by lovingly and respectfully (1) promoting and advancing sound, biblical Arminian theology, and (2) refuting Calvinism and diminishing the number of its adherents, through the concerted, strategic effort of Arminians networked through the society for the accomplishment of these goals as well as (3) mutual encouragement, support, and growth in the truth of God’s word. Our constitution may be found at http://evangelicalarminians.org/constitution/. Our statement of faith may be found at http://evangelicalarminians.org/statement-of-faith/.Despite stark differences, SEA generally accepts Calvinists as fellow brothers and sisters in the Lord who adhere to a reasonable but seriously flawed biblical theology. As an association of evangelicals, we are committed to a high view of Scripture as the word of God, which we therefore consider to be the supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct. Indeed, it is because we trust in the Bible as the word of God that we are Arminians, for we are convinced that Arminianism most accurately reflects the teaching of the Bible. Our evangelical identity also comes to expression in our commitment to the gospel of Jesus Christ, which offers salvation by grace through faith for all who believe. It is an exciting and profound message of good news from a good God who loves the world and has provided for the salvation of all in the death of his Son, though only those who believe will receive the salvation that God wants to give them. Such good news—salvation, forgiveness of sins, and eternal life offered to us by God as a free gift at the greatest cost to himself—the life of his own Son, Jesus Christ our Lord! The society’s vision is long-ranging and relatively comprehensive for advancing Arminian theology and refuting Calvinistic theology. We hope to direct people to the best Arminian material as well as to produce quality, exegetically-oriented material. The group is open to both what one might call 4 point Arminians (those who believe that true believers cannot stop believing and so forfeit their salvation) and 5 point Arminians (those who believe that true believers can stop believing and perish), though its basic orientation is 5 point (understanding that Arminianism accepts total depravity, but differs with Calvinism about its implications) in that members of the group are free to argue for the fifth point while arguing against it does not fall within the purview of the group’s activity. The society’s statement of faith does not address the issue of the possibility of apostasy from genuine saving faith, but it does insist that perseverance in faith is necessary for final salvation. Anyone who joins the group must affirm the statement of faith and the goals of the society, and continue to do so to remain a member. Being a member of the society networks you with other members through our private discussion group and involves you in pursuing our goals. Our private, members-only discussion group is located on Facebook and so requires a Facebook account for participation in it. Facebook accounts are free to create, and one can limit Facebook use to participation in SEA's private discussion group if desired. If you agree with our statement of faith and our recognition of Calvinists as fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, and you are committed to engaging this issue with love and respect for all, and you would like to join the society, please apply for membership. (If your country does not have access to BigTent, then you can join by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org requesting membership, stating that you agree with SEA's statement of faith and goals, and providing your name, physical address, and phone number.) We would love to have you join us in spreading and defending the truth of God’s word, the goodness of his character, and the glory of his grace.
